28th March 2011 – A recent survey of UK home owners has revealed that over half of us would rather take the advice of friends or family when they choose a tradesman with only 30% bothering to check qualifications and a mere 18% valuing membership of trade organisations. The survey* by Europe’s largest online tradesman directory and review site showed that word of mouth is king with 67% citing reputation as the most important factor.

However with money in short supply, there is less of an appetite to risk budget or bodges , 70% of those surveyed quoted price as a key factor and 71% reliability.

Geritt Mueller, CEO and General Manager International for MyHammer said ‘These findings confirm the trends that we are seeing on the MyHammer site with customers posting jobs in order to obtain a competitive quote but ultimately making their decisions on the basis of the recommendations and experiences of other customers. When you are selecting someone to take on an important home improvement project you want to be confident in your choice. allows you to review the performances of over 40,000 experts. allows you to obtain quotes for jobs in your home from qualified tradesmen.
