Asbestos is a naturally occurring fibrous material used primarily as fire-proofing and insulation in most buildings erected or renovated between the 1950s and 1980s, though any building erected before the year 2000 could contain some form of asbestos.

If left undisturbed, asbestos is harmless. It is only when moved or damaged that fibres are released into the air. Unfortunately, to the untrained eye, it’s not easy to spot. It can be found in a number of places, including:

Ceiling and floor tiles
Insulating boards
Pipe insulation
Cement roof sheeting
Spray-coating

The 2011 Construction Diversity Expo will be taking place at the Guildhall in London on 12th September!  The expo aims to do just as the name suggests – promote diversity in the construction and building sector.  The Expo includes two events: a conference and an exhibition.
