The 2011 Infrastructure Show will be taking place 17th-19th October at the NEC in Birmingham.
While the show is geared toward civil engineers, it’s also for contractors, project managers and others interested in “rail, roads, airports and utilities.”

The UK Construction Act has recently been amended. In an effort to help clarify the impact of the changes, the Chartered Institute of Builders and Hill International are offering a Masterclass at the Brewer’s Hall in London on 9th/10th November.
The class will focus on changes to the Construction Act, as well as how to manage claims, deal with disputes and effective conflict resolution.

What is the Green Deal?
According to the DECC, the Green Deal is “a framework to enable private firms to offer consumers energy efficiency improvements to their homes, community spaces and businesses at no upfront cost, and to recoup payments through a charge in instalments on the energy bill.”
In other words, it is essentially a loan. The cost of the improvements is to be recovered through instalments on the energy bill (likely over several years). This is different from a personal loan in that you are not obligated to continue paying if you move house.
